All Aboard the Bike Bus! Join us for a Fun Ride to School!

We're excited to announce the launch of a new initiative at Florence Nightingale Elementary this spring – a Bike Bus! This is a fun and healthy way for students to get to school, while reducing traffic congestion and promoting environmental awareness. The Province of BC is sponsoring this program which is being delivered by HUB Cycling.

What is a Bike Bus?

A Bike Bus is like a school bus, but on bikes! A designated route with pick up/drop off points where students can join, and a HUB Cycling certified bike instructor will lead the group to and from school along with adult volunteers. It's a great way to encourage cycling, build community, and make the commute more enjoyable.

How Does it Work?

  • Route & Pick up/Drop off Points: We planned a route and pick up/drop off locations based on where most interested families live according to a previous survey we sent out. Parents, we need your help! Please volunteer through this link or click the poster below.

  • AM meeting point: 10th and Keith Drive, next to the playground of the China Creek South Park, riding west along 10th, left turn on Windsor and then right on 14th

  • Point #1: 14th & Prince Albert, keep riding west

  • Point #2: Robson Park, next to the swingset, then keep riding north on St George, left turn on 11th and left again in Guelph

  • School: arriving through Guelph

*The afternoon route is the same but in the opposite direction.

Why Participate?

  • Fun and Fitness: Cycling is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air before school.

  • Community Building: It's a chance to connect with other families and meet friends along the way!

  • Environmental Benefits: Reducing car traffic helps improve air quality and reduces our carbon footprint.

  • Convenience: In most cases it's a more convenient option than driving!

Interested?

We'd love for your family to join us! We welcome children across all grades, though basic experience with riding is recommended. All parents/caregivers are welcome to join. You do not have to participate every week, or do the return trip if your children have after school activities. In order for us to plan please read and sign this registration form, even if you plan to attend occasionally. Parents, if you’re able to volunteer, please sign up here!
